Positive Training That Works

Positive reinforcement training works because it involves showing the dog what you want from them and using positive reinforcement to help the dogs remember these behaviours and repeat them. This process builds confident dogs, who are happy to train with you.

Why Choose Poppy’s Dog School?

Positive Reinforcement

Training should be enjoyable for both dogs and people. Our methods are force-free, reward-based, and tailored to your dog’s personality and learning style.

Positive Reinforcement

Building a Positive Relationship

Using reward-based training teaches your dog that good things happen around you and you are fun to be around. This positive relationship grows stronger the more training you do. This method is much less stressful for dog and people than using tools or harsh handling methods.

Ongoing Support

Once you join one of the group classes or training memberships, you will have access to free support and guidance from a trainer in between sessions. Puppy blues are a common experience in new puppy parents - we can help you get through it with confidence.

Supportive and Friendly Environment

Training should be enjoyable for both dogs and people. Our methods are force-free, reward-based, and tailored to your dog’s personality and learning style.

Training sessions are relaxed and supportive so that people and dogs can learn without stress or fear. If you have any health conditions which require adaptations to your training we can tailor sessions to your needs.

Practical Everyday Training

Training sessions focus on real-world behaviours so you can enjoy calmer walks, better recall, and improved confidence in everyday situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does your next puppy class start?

Our next puppy class begins on Saturday 27th June 2026 at 9am. Spaces are limited so book now to secure your spot!

Where are you located?

Our group classes are held in Newmarket. For one-to-one training and dog walking, we also cover the surrounding areas.

How old does my puppy need to be?

Puppies can join our classes as soon as they have had their vaccinations. Starting early helps shape their personality for a lifetime of confidence.

How many dogs are in each class?

We keep our classes small (usually 4-6 dogs) to ensure everyone gets personal attention.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations for one-to-ones. Missed group classes are non-refundable because the sessions cannot be resold. However, for missed sessions, we will provide guidance on exercises for you to complete at home.

How long do courses run?

Our group classes run in rolling 4-week blocks. You can join us for 4 weeks (Level 1), 8 weeks (Level 2), 12-weeks (Level 3) depending on how far you want to progress with you skills. You can also take breaks and come back to training when it suits your life.

What training methods do you use?

We are strictly force-free meaning we never use prong collars, shock collars, slip leads, halti harnesses or any aversive tools. Everything is based on showing your dog what to do, positive reinforcement, building trust and a happy bond between you and your dog.

What should I bring to class?

Bring your dog on a flat collar or harness and a standard lead (no extendable leads, please). Most importantly, bring lots of high-value treats, water and your dog's favorite toy!
